Awaken
Morning light rouse me
Lift me from fog shrouded dreams
Break upon my sleep drugged form
Pull back weighted covers that hold me
Warm me with your radiant touch
Ignite every cell long dormant
Flood me with your energy
Startle me with child-like inspiration
History has never seen this day
Fresh and clean with possibility
Ignorant of yesterday’s chains
Yet swollen with unopened dreams
I seize the daylight
And will not turn back
Each moment awaits, fresh and pure
With jewels to be plucked
I know of promises long ignored
And love not shared
This day has gifts to be opened
Awaken me!
Note: I took this photo just after dawn. It is of a central Michigan soybean field and distant woods. The ground fog was just beginning to burn off the field, but lingered in the trees.
